Routes into Law

Attwells Solicitors has 6 training contracts available at any time.

Our trainees are expected to have a strong academic background and excellent communication and IT skills.

We pay the SRA minimum salary levels and the Professional Skills Course costs but do not contribute to Legal Practice Course costs.

Experience is available in the following areas of legal practice:-

  • Conveyancing
  • Business
  • Employment
  • Litigation
  • Private Client

The extent of the experience that a trainee receives in each discipline will depend upon the office that the trainee works at and the trainee’s preferences. As we are a leading national property firm much of the trainee’s experience will have a property bias.

In our experience, the best way for a trainee to gain the skills of a solicitor is to conduct their own files as a fee earner supported at all times by their training supervisor.

Many of our trainees began their journey with Attwells in another capacity within the firm and where this experience is relevant, our training principal can consider reducing the length of the training contract by this relevant experience up to the maximum of 6 months.

It is our wish, having made a significant investment to retain all of our trainee solicitors provided they have met the grade expected of a Solicitor at Attwells. Attwells sees the Training Contract as part of the journey of professional development that will hopefully end in partnership.

Throughout the Training Contract there will be regular appraisals.

At the end of the Training Contract we will meet with the trainee and discuss their preferred area of practice and seek to find them a position that meets these preferences.

At Attwells we are always looking for experienced lawyers who want to join a larger organisation and focus upon their clients and cases whilst we take responsibility for the management and compliance of legal practice.

An experienced lawyer in any of these disciplines: Property, Employment, Business, Private Client, and Dispute Resolution who is looking to join a modern, open, relaxed law firm should consider Attwells.

As a consultant, we would expect you to be an expert in your field and work within SRA guidance.

In return for Attwells taking responsibility for the compliance requirements of law firm management and providing professional support, a consultant will have the opportunity to share in generous profit-share arrangements and work alongside like-minded individuals.

We recognise that our support staff make a huge contribution to the delivery of the excellent standard of client care expected at Attwells.

Attwells is a growing and thriving practice and support staff are integral to this growth. With this growth comes opportunities either to manage a department of the firm’s support services or to train as a lawyer.

The management structure at Attwells is welcoming and everyone including the Partners work in a team-orientated way.

An applicant interested in a specific vacancy or just wishing to make a speculative application is very welcome to do so. Any such application will be held in the strictest confidence.
