A Simple Will is suitable for many people. If your wishes are straightforward, for example, leaving everything to family, friends, or charities without restrictions – a Simple Will may be all you need.

You can make a Will just for yourself, or you and your partner can make mirror Wills. Mirror Wills are two separate documents containing the same (or very similar) instructions, typically leaving everything to each other and then, on the second death, to children or other beneficiaries.

It’s important to understand that mirror Wills are not binding. After the first person passes away, the survivor inherits everything and can change their Will if they choose. If you want more certainty about how your estate is passed on, you may wish to consider a Family Protection Will instead.

What does a Simple Will cover?

  • Appointing executors
  • Appointing guardians for children
  • Making gifts of money
  • Leaving personal items to specific people
  • Stating simple funeral wishes
  • Covering UK assets only

Not included:

  • Foreign assets
  • Business assets
  • Planning for care home fees
  • Issues relating to domicile
  • Gifts with conditions or restrictions
  • Trusts
  • Tax planning and advice
  • Granting rights for someone to live in your home after your death

If your needs go beyond what a Simple Will can cover, you may require a Complex Will. We can guide you through this to ensure your estate is protected according to your wishes.
