From 18 November 2025, Companies House will begin rolling out mandatory identity verification (IDV) for all company directors and people with significant control (PSCs).

This change, part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, aims to improve the integrity of the Companies House register and reduce the misuse of corporate structures.

What This Means for You

If you are a client of Attwells Solicitors and act as a director, PSC, or LLP member, you will need to verify your identity with Companies House. This applies to both existing and new appointments.

Those who submit documents to Companies House on behalf of others (for example, company secretaries or agents) will also need to complete verification.

How You Can Verify

There are two main routes:

  1. Directly with Companies House – using GOV.UK One Login and approved photo ID (passport or driving licence). Some individuals may have the option of in-person verification, such as at a Post Office.
  1. Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) – You can find a registered ACSP on the official Companies House list of authorised providers.

Once verified, you’ll be issued with a unique personal ID code that links to your Companies House roles. You’ll only need to verify once.

Key Dates

  • Autumn 2025 18 November 2025– Verification becomes mandatory for all new incorporations, directors, and PSCs. You will need to provide your Companies House personal code as part of your company’s next confirmation statement from this date.
  • Spring 2026 – Only verified individuals or registered ACSPs will be able to file information at Companies House.

Why It Matters

Failure to complete verification could:

  • Prevent you from acting as a director or PSC.
  • Lead to Companies House rejecting filings or flagging your record as “unverified”.
  • Result in legal or reputational consequences for your business.
