David Morgan Jones Solicitors Joins Attwells

After 25 years in business, David Morgan Jones Solicitors (DMJ), based in North Hill Colchester has merged with neighbouring firm Attwells Solicitors. Attwells who have offices based in Colchester, Ipswich and London have been rapidly expanding over the last 2 years.

The two firms are perfectly matched, with both solicitor practices embracing the same aims of service, approachability and affordability in providing easily accessible legal services to their clients.

Both specialise in the same areas of law: conveyancing; private client, employment, commercial and litigation . The Firms have been working on the merger since December 2021 and it will bring 5 experienced employees to Attwells as well as the considerable experience of David Morgan Jones as a Consultant who can begin the steps to retirement.

This follows hot on the heels of Attwells’ recent acquisition of a second office in Ipswich to allow them to expand and have more room to grow and accommodate new staff. Managing Partner Nick Attwell spoke of his excitement for the Firm’s expansion; “It’s great to have been able to merge with such an established and well-respected firm that shares our values and beliefs and who are based right next to us on North Hill in Colchester. We can’t wait to welcome the team to their new office and for everyone to get fully acquainted.”

Attwells hopes that the expansion will help to create more jobs across their offices and create more opportunities for young people through their lawyer apprenticeship and training contract schemes.

Nick AttwellManaging Partner
During my High School years I was lucky to have a teacher who taught a small group of us in his own time non-curricular subjects including Law. This ignited my interest in Law and a commitment to teaching and training young people.

During these years I also attended work experience which led to me wanting to be a Solicitor. I am committed to providing work experience to young people who do not otherwise have access to the profession.

I share my time between Attwells’ all three offices in Ipswich, Colchester and London.

I am a commercial lawyer with a particular expertise around commercial property and land development. My clients range from local SMEs to larger national clients and FTSE 250 companies.

Clients value my strategic thinking, ability to explain complex legal principles in plain English and energetic approach to their matters.

The values our staff uphold

Progressive – Improving our Staff & The Firm
  • Being progressive does not mean that you must climb the career ladder, but that you want to improve the way you do your job. For those who want to climb the career ladder, there is a clear career progression structure at Attwells.
  • Improving the firm is about us seeking to be modern in all that we do and embracing change.
Personal – A Personal Interest in our Clients & Colleagues
  • Being personal is caring about each other and showing a personal interest in each other’s lives.
  • Caring about delivering an excellent service to our clients and helping them meet their goals.
  • Building a personal rapport by showing a personal interest in our clients.
  • Colleagues and clients can expect to be treated as a person and not a number.
Professional – Keeping Promises
  • Doing what you say you will do for clients even if that means staying late on occasion to do so.
  • If you promise a colleague something you do it promptly.
  • Your colleagues and clients can trust you. For a client, it will mean you become their trusted advisor. For a colleague, a friend.
  • Professionalism is not skin-deep and therefore it is not about the way you look but the way you act.
Positive – “A Glass Half Full Person”
  • We are not mood-hoovers.
  • We are “can-do” people.
  • Clients should experience someone who is a problem solver and looks to find solutions and not put barriers in the way of progress.
  • A positive person promotes themselves as a lawyer, the firm, its other services, and their colleagues.

Attwells 4Ps exist within a team environment where the firm’s interests prevail over personal interests. Everyone is treated equally whether you are a lawyer, a trainee lawyer or a member of support.
