Enhance or start your law career at Attwells Solicitors

Founded in 2007 by Nick Attwell and Will Oakes, the firm has significantly expanded, offering numerous progression opportunities. With 7 Board Members, 6 Partners, Associates, and Senior Lawyers, many of whom began their careers at Attwells, we prioritise supporting our team at every career stage.

Progressive – Improving our Staff & The Firm

  • Being progressive does not mean that you must climb the career ladder, but that you want to improve the way you do your job. For those who want to climb the career ladder, there is a clear career progression structure at Attwells.
  • Improving the firm is about us seeking to be modern in all that we do and embracing change.

Personal – A Personal Interest in our Clients & Colleagues

  • Being personal is caring about each other and showing a personal interest in each other’s lives.
  • Caring about delivering an excellent service to our clients and helping them meet their goals.
  • Building a personal rapport by showing a personal interest in our clients.
  • Colleagues and clients can expect to be treated as a person and not a number.

Professional – Keeping Promises

  • Doing what you say you will do for clients even if that means staying late on occasion to do so.
  • If you promise a colleague something you do it promptly.
  • Your colleagues and clients can trust you. For a client, it will mean you become their trusted advisor. For a colleague, a friend.
  • Professionalism is not skin-deep and therefore it is not about the way you look but the way you act.

Positive – “A Glass Half Full Person”

  • We are not mood-hoovers.
  • We are “can-do” people.
  • Clients should experience someone who is a problem solver and looks to find solutions and not put barriers in the way of progress.
  • A positive person promotes themselves as a lawyer, the firm, its other services, and their colleagues.

Attwells 4Ps exist within a team environment where the firm’s interests prevail over personal interests. Everyone is treated equally whether you are a lawyer, a trainee lawyer, or a member of support.

Lloyd Clarke: Lloyd is one of the Partners at Attwells and he runs the Employment Law and Insurance Litigation department from the Colchester Office.

Lloyd began his legal career at Attwells over 10 years ago, starting as a Junior Paralegal, after graduating from the University of Essex. Lloyd was the first person in his family to enter into further education. Lloyd completed his training contract at Attwells and qualified as a solicitor.

Lloyd had a keen interest in employment law, with it being the area he wanted to qualify into.  At the time, this was not an area of law Attwells covered, however, we supported Lloyd in starting this department from scratch and Lloyd has spent a lot of time over the years networking and building his personal brand as an employment law expert.

Lloyd has progressed up the ladder during his time at Attwells, becoming an associate, senior associate and then a Partner.  He now manages a department of 4 which continues to grow.

Holly Quantrill: Holly is Deputy Department Head of the Suffolk conveyancing team.  She began her career at Attwells by doing work experience here during her time at school. She went on to the University of Bristol where she graduated with a Law degree.  She returned to Attwells beginning her legal careeras a conveyancing assistant. Attwells funded Holly’s clc so that she could become a qualified licenced conveyancer. Following qualification as a conveyancing lawyer, Holly has taken on more managerial responsibility within the department as well as being involved in the business development of the department. Holly deals with a caseload of conveyancing files ranging from sales and purchases of freehold and leasehold properties, new builds, shared ownership and help to buy schemes as well as other more complex conveyancing matters.

Laura Catania: Laura is one of the partners at Attwells. Laura is head of conveyancing, which involves overseeing all of our conveyancing departments, our acutions department and our specialist property department, across our 3 offices. Laura began her career at Attwells as a legal secretary. Attwells funded Laura’s CLC course and she balanced working and studying to become a qualified licenced conveyancer. Following qualification, Laura progressed up the career ladder to managing a conveyancing department in the Ipswich office. On being made a partner, Laura took on the role of head of conveyancing, overseeing all of the conveyancing departments across the firm.

Emma Matthews: Emma started her career at Attwells as a personal assistant to Nick Attwell in 2001. In 2007 Emma was promoted to office manager and began to take on more responsibility within the firm. In line with Attwells’ growth, Emma’s responsibilities have grown also.  Emma is now head of human resources and administration and facilities and is a member of the Board at Attwells.  During her time at Attwells Emma has also continued her learning, having completed a CIPD human resources qualification.
